Nia is an eclectic expressive body-mind fitness fusion program. Combines movement elements from the Martial Arts: The dance of precision; the Dance Arts: the dance of expression; and the Healing Arts: the dance of the body’s way. A combination of form presented in choreography patterns of steps and stances, and freedom found in Freedance.
Nia Intro/Basic: excellent for students new to Nia and Movement! Increase your physical skill by learning Nia’s basic steps, stances and choreography to adapt your nervous system and increase your ability to sense Nia’s Joy of Movement.
Nia Mothers & Others Childcare co-op: Classic Nia open class with addition of childcare co-op. Parents/caregivers rotate babysitting and get a free Nia class in exchange for their turn at childcare. 15 mins of complimentary movement with children following class. For co-op details, email Nia teacher Richele darkhorse1@hotmail.com
Nia Movement & Stretch Without Fear: Gentle beginner Nia movement to gain entry in to the Joy of Movement for those who are afraid to get started due to a variety of physical limitations, obesity, or body image concerns. A safe, playful, accepting environment to explore sensation, overcome fear and find JOY.
Nia Community Dance Jam: Nia teachers from the greater Capital District come together and share the facilitation of Nia’s Joy of Movement. Jams are spontaneous, exuberant and fun! Great for everyone and an excellent way to get a “taste” of Nia and dance in community at The Center.
Nia Movement as Meditation or “I should be a church but this is a lot more FUN!”
Sunday Morning Nia 1x/mo. A blend of simple choreography and freedance set to affirming music creates a moving meditation. Ends with deep relaxation and meditation.
Gentle Nia Movement for the Young at Heart: Experience the joy of moving the body's way...no matter the age of the body moving! Open to all ages, but young at heart and seniors are especially welcome. An eclectic movement program that will stretch and strengthen your body and bring a smile to your face!
